In the footsteps of Stokes – Research Phase (2019)
It turns out that there is a notable explorer in Tori’s family ancestry by the name of Admiral John Lort Stokes. Stokes sailed on the Beagle with Charles Darwin and charted the coast of Australia & New Zealand, and also gave New Zealand’s highest peak its European name ‘Mount Cook’. Tori is currently undertaking some research into her ancestor.
Beeline Britain 2014
In June 2014 Tori was part of the Beeline Britain team who became the first to travel in a straight line from Land’s End to John O’Groats in aid of BLESMA (the British Limbless Ex-Servicemen’s Association).
Their 1,100km journey involved sea kayaking, road cycling, mountain biking and hiking and is documented in the award-winning film “As The Crow Flies”. The team set a record for the longest open sea kayak crossing in UK waters kayaking non-stop for 200km from Land’s End to Pembrokeshire.
Girls Bike New Zealand 2010
Having never cycled more than approximately 30km in one day, Tori decided to cycle the length of New Zealand. Together with Maria Leijerstam they kitted up their bikes for the 2,400km journey and flew to New Zealand. Choosing to cycle from north to south (because that’s downhill isn’t it?) their adventure was everything they hoped it would be; spectacular and adrenalin filled. The scenery included vast coastlines and beaches, hot sulphurous pools and huge mountain passes. They experienced such generous hospitality on route and reached the most southerly point ‘Bluff’ in just 23 days of cycling. Highly recommended.

Everest Expedition 2007
In 2007 Tori was part of a four-stong team who were attempting to climb to the summit of Mount Everest. The success of this expedition was dependant on an 18 month training schedule which tested Tori to the limit, including an ascent of the Himalayan peak Cho Oyu (8201 metres). The team sought advice from fellow climbers and engaged professional support for the physical, psychological and nutritional elements of the expedition. On 24th May 2007 Tori became the youngest British female (at that time) and the first Welsh woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest. All four team members were successful in reaching the summit.

Polar Challenge 2005
In 2005 Tori was part of the Pink Lady PoleCats, an all-female team attempting to make the history books. The Polar Challenge is a 360 mile race across the frozen sea ice of the Arctic Ocean. Temperatures drop to below minus 20 and there is the ever-present danger from Polar Bears. The team was hoping to become the first ever all-female team to complete the race and on 22nd May 2005 they crossed the line in 6th position out of 16 teams.
